Once the islands of Cres and Losinj were one large island. In Roman times a 130 meter long canal was dug between the two islands and since then Cres and Losinj are considered separate islands. Both Cres and Losinj are elongated and have a lot of natural beauty. Cres is a peaceful island with forests, mountains and small villages. The only significant town on the island is the equally named Cres. Here you will find a charming harbour and a secluded bay. Hiking is a popular activity here. Lubenice, just south of the old fishing village of Valun, rises 380 meters above the sea and from there you have a beautiful view.

More about Losinj

At Osor, which has 60 inhabitants, you cross the bridge to the popular island of Losinj, the second largest island of Croatia after Krk. Mount Osorscica with its 588 meters is the highest mountain of Losinj. You can easily climb it and then enjoy a beautiful view of other islands in the Kvarner Gulf. Losinj has several quaint towns, of which Mali Losinj is the largest and most touristic. There is a large harbour and sailing and diving trips are organized. On the bustling promenade are many restaurants. 


In the waters around Lošinj lots of dolphins can be found and the sea has been declared a dolphin protection area. Chances are that you will spot dolphins if you rent a boat or book an excursion.
